Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge
Madison neighborhood bar known for live country, roots music, classic cocktails, and a strong local following. A divey, music-first spot for catching bands outside the downtown scene.
What to Expect
Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge is housed inside a converted triple-wide trailer in Madison, a neighborhood that was once home to country and bluegrass royalty: Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, and Patsy Cline all lived there. Jam sessions at Scruggs' house were known to pull in bluegrass' biggest names, and Cline was part of a wave of musicians who moved to Madison once they started making real money in the industry. Owner Amy Dee opened the place in 2016 because she felt Nashville didn't have a proper classic country bar, so she built one herself. Inside, it's wood paneling, a jukebox loaded with old country records, and a 1970s dive-bar feel throughout. NPR named it one of the city's top 10 music venues, and Esquire put it on its list of the Best 27 Bars in America in 2020. Musician Margo Price has even worked the bar as a guest bartender. Live music runs close to seven nights a week, usually split into early and late shows, and Bluegrass Monday has become the signature night to catch. There's a fire pit and an outdoor stage out back, plus a front porch to grab some fresh air. The kitchen keeps it simple with Frito pie and BBQ sandwiches. It's a small room, so nobody's ever far from the stage.
